Description
Merkel cell carcinoma is a rare type of skin cancer that usually appear as nodules of flesh-colored bluish or red, often on the head, face or neck. Merkel cell carcinoma is also called neuroendokrin Carcinoma of the skin.
Merkel cell carcinoma develops most often in the elderly. Long-term exposure to sunlight or a weak immune system can increase the risk of hit by merkel cell carcinoma.
Merkel cell carcinoma tends to grow rapidly and spread quickly to other parts of the body. Treatment options for Merkel cell carcinoma often depends on whether the cancer has spread to the outer skin.

The Cause Of
It is not clear what caused the Merkel cell carcinoma. Merkel cell carcinoma begins in the cells of Merkel.Merkel cells are found at the bottom of the outermost layer of skin (epidermis). Merkel cells are connected to the ends of the nerves in the skin which is responsible for the sense of touch.

Symptoms
The first sign of Merkel cell carcinoma is typically quick growing, painless nodules (tumor) on the skin.Shiny skin colored irregular nodules may or may come in shades of red, blue, or purple. Most Merkel cell carcinoma arises in the head, face or neck, but can develop anywhere in the body, even in areas not exposed to sunlight.

Treatment for Merkel cell carcinoma can include:

2. radiation therapy
3. Chemotherapy
